The first few days

A rest stop on the way to Trieste

The roads from Lido di Jesolo to Trieste were flat and an easy place to start building the kilometres. We were happy with our pace to Trieste, an imposing coastal city near the Italian - Slovenian border. The route followed the Adriatic coast, where we ventured off road along the cliff tops for a few kilometres of rewarding views.

Duino Castle

A chance detour to Duino Castle had us stumbling across the UWC of the Adriatic!

A gentle afternoon ride downhill brought us back to sea level at Miramare, where locals were sunbathing on a concrete "beach". Instead of opting for the hostel we cycled another hour south to the Italy-Slovenia border and stayed at the border campground.

Hi guys!
Great to read through your blog and see you're having a great time. The photo's are beautiful! Sorry we missed the farewell but Charlotte was a little unsettled (just got her first tooth, so we now know why!). Love to you both, and will check the blog regularly so I can live vicariously through reading your adventures!!
Love, Dan:)

Roger and Luisa - Sounds like you are having so much fun - what an adventure - would have loved to have come with you but I suppose I am too "old". Keep us posted. We are soon to leave for Ireland and France to join Mum and Dad Helen and Harold on our cycling expedition. Gran says hello. Have a great time. Cheers, Carmel and John
